Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: How Etiquette and Leadership Training Builds Confidence, Character, and Connection
This June, I had the opportunity to work with two incredible youth leadership programs—Lion’s Heart and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). I was honored to teach a Leadership and Etiquette workshop for Lion’s Heart teens and to volunteer at RYLA, where I had the chance to support an inspiring group of future leaders as they engaged in team-building and service.
Both experiences were powerful reminders of how etiquette, emotional intelligence, and strong communication shape effective, values-based leadership.
Etiquette Is More Than Manners—It’s About Leadership and Relationships
In both settings, one truth stood out clearly: leadership begins with how we treat others. Through kindness, respect, and self-awareness, these students showed us that etiquette is not about perfection—it’s about presence, purpose, and people.
Whether introducing themselves with confidence, working collaboratively in groups, or showing genuine care for one another, they modeled what it means to lead with heart.
Lion’s Heart: Engaged, Curious, and Ready to Lead
On June 19, I led a Leadership and Etiquette workshop for the dedicated teens of Lion’s Heart—a service-based organization that empowers young adults to give back to their communities.
We explored:
-
First impressions and introductions
-
Communication (in person, online and thank you notes)
-
Body language and presence
-
Dining etiquette
These students dove into each interactive activity with enthusiasm and grace. Their questions, insights, and participation reflected their strong character and a genuine desire to grow.
RYLA: Leadership Through Service and Connection
Over the weekend, I had the privilege of volunteering at the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) program—an immersive leadership experience that brings together high school students for workshops, service projects, and personal development.
The RYLA participants impressed me with their dedication to:
-
Collaborative teamwork
-
Meaningful service
-
Open, honest communication
-
Supporting one another through challenges
It was inspiring to witness them step up, speak out, and support each other as they discovered their leadership potential in real time.
Why This Work Matters
As the founder of Invest In U, I believe leadership isn’t reserved for titles or positions—it starts with how we show up every day. Etiquette and leadership training provide the tools to lead with confidence, compassion, and integrity.
When young people learn that kindness + respect = influence, they carry that forward into their families, schools, communities—and the world.
Final Reflections
June reminded me that the future is in very good hands. The Lion’s Heart teens and RYLA participants didn’t just show up—they led. With open minds, caring hearts, and a willingness to learn, they proved that character still counts.
I am grateful for the chance to be part of these incredible moments.
