Holiday Kindness Matters: A December Reminder to Check In on the People Around Us
A gentle holiday message on connection, compassion, and caring for others.
December is here, and with it comes the familiar holiday rush — year-end deadlines, travel, gatherings, and that hopeful feeling that we can fit everything in. It’s a beautiful season, but also a busy one. In all the noise, it becomes surprisingly easy to overlook one simple but meaningful act: checking in on the people around us.
We often associate the holidays with joy, but many people also experience loneliness, grief, overwhelm, or quiet stress this time of year. A small moment of kindness can offer comfort in ways we may never know.
Why Holiday Check-Ins Matter
The holiday season can amplify emotions — the highs and the lows. People may appear “fine” on the surface while carrying much more underneath. A thoughtful check-in reminds them they are seen and valued.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. A quick text, a short call, or a “thinking of you today” message can make someone feel less alone during a month when everyone seems so busy.
Small Gestures, Big Impact
Kindness often shows up in simple, everyday ways:
-
Allowing someone with a few items to go ahead of you in the grocery line
-
Offering a smile or a warm greeting
-
Checking in on a neighbor
-
Making space for an older adult in a crowded area
-
Reaching out to a friend or family member who’s been on your mind
These small, thoughtful gestures brighten days. Sometimes they even change them.
The Gift of Presence
Your presence — not presents — is often the most meaningful thing you can give. Kindness doesn’t require wrapping paper, a perfect moment, or extra time. It simply asks that we pause long enough to truly notice others.
This December, I’m challenging myself (and gently inviting you) to check in on a few people. No pressure, no script — just a genuine moment of connection. You may be the unexpected brightness someone needs.
Wishing You a Season of Connection and Compassion
As the year winds down, I hope you find warmth, peace, and meaningful moments. May kindness guide your season, and may the small gestures you offer make someone’s holiday a little lighter.
Warmly,
Lee-Ann
